We're already in the process of implementing post-quantum cryptography into products and we're far from the only ones doing it as there's an industry-wide push to get ahead of what quantum computers will be able to do. If my peers and I do our jobs properly, nothing will ever happen.

hi computer scientist here, quantum is all hype these days. the most likely algorithm where you'll find quantum supremacy is for like ~300 bit SAT problems with qaoa - i'd be amazed if this happened in 5 years, let alone 3. even if it did, this is one not-very-useful problem, not encryption breaking by itself. true quantum supremacy is a ways off, probably at least 10 years but i've talked a lot of people in the field who think 25+ is more realistic. denoising is hard and classical computers are fast.
