There's a solid amount of evidence that it has some correctness. There is a lot of incorrect stuff, too. Delving deep enough there are clearly multiple ET factions, with some being quite old and having their hand in human governance.

A vast culling of Earth's human population would provide this "crop" of souls, just like in the RV scenario you describe from Mars.
Parallel to this, the human authorities on Earth now have their own crisis with pretext to seize total control as a bonus to fulfilling their end of this bargain.

I don't think that people who are willing to literally sell peoples' souls in some transaction are at all concerned about things like moralty, law, wisdom, etc.
