Top load clothes washers suck now because they don't have real agitators. They used to be so cheap and work so well. Fortunately mine is still working. Knob is coming apart, I can deal with that. Now they don't want you to have an agitator because it uses more electricity or something.

Now they don't agitate the water but just sort of suggest it move, and apparently the water moves a little bit, and that's supposed to wash your clothes.

Although you can still buy good washing machines even today if you buy the commercial ones but they cost $5000+ and require more space.
It would make sense though in design phase of house to have space in your washroom for a commercial grade washer and dryer.
