It’s so weird to see a show like this nowadays as opposed to say the 90s or early 00s. The show assumes it is the centre of culture, that every American tunes in every night and this is the mainstream voice we agree on sanitised and sanctioned. It is lost without a massive audience, it doesn’t even work when there’s a few million people. The applause breaks are phantom hands clapping most people don’t hear, Some cultural commentator or philosopher would have the words for the vitiation of late night comedy talk shows, but I don’t, there’s something there, a powerful idea.

I'm gonna get flamed for this but Colbert was funny and smart. The only reason /pol/ doesn't like him is because free speech only counts when you call someone a retarded nigger.

The real reason Colbert got canceled is cause Late Night TV is dead. The only person who had more viewers was Gutfield! (who has 3mil views with 300k in the 18-49 demographic, compared to Colbert's 2.4 mil with 219k in the 18-49 demo)

I think the next cancellations will be NBC's Fallon and Seth Meyers (Meyers can't break a mil viewers and already lost his band)

It's not just talk shows. What was the last late night program you really watched? I'm talking adult swim here too. TV is just an antiquated means of entertainment that continues to be eaten by the internet. Streaming, Reels/Shorts, hell even Twitch streamers are pulling higher numbers than most TV shows now.

Colbert is great performer/writer. Even Norm Macdonald sung Colbert's praises. Colbert's got plenty of money so I hope he either retires or goes back to writing/voice acting.
