Agreed. How did fps gaming devolve into tryhards aim training and practicing pixel perfect smokes in CS every day. Who the fuck has time to do digital homework and play the same map 1000 times just to be on the same level as everybody else. It's why I play Team Fortress 2 where a sizable portion of the players won't shoot you if you emote mid fight or you walk around the map as a Heavy with a sandvich

"Old" people can be extremely good at FPS and other reaction intensive activities. It's always the old fucks that dome me in Counterstrike Source community maps. As long as you exercise regularly, get enough sleep, don't look at screens before bed, and don't drink alcohol you can age super well. While it's true reaction time does slow down with age, remember there are professional racecar drivers and dudes in SWAT teams and Special Forces that are in their 30s and 40s and beyond. Also if you have a slow computer and a poor refresh rate monitor you'll be at a massive disadvantage

I loved BF2 and BFV. 1942 was mindblowing in its day - running around fighting with 60 other players, then jumping in a Messerschmitt and having a dogfight while the plebs fight away below. But Vietnam was peak.

BFBC2 was and is still the best game of the franchise.
The reason being that they focused on fun first and foremost, not cramming maximum content or the most realistic movements ever etc.

Movements were intentionally clunky, no proning, and everything had a counter.

Quake 3 is another of these gems, as balanced as it is possible to make it and it is still played with full servers 26 years after release.

On that exact map, when I played one of the beta builds (but it persisted for a few updates), I found a bug.
If you spawn as terrorist and buy the USP (and I think you also needed to buy the Mac 10), the pistol would start shooting shotgun shells instead.

Also in one of the later campaign maps of Half Life there was a relief with the name Sgt Riddler or Ritter (can't remember exactly) in the walls for the water drainage (below the main parts of the map)

Silent heroes mod, where Sweden fights Norway, was also fun, but never as active.
I also played the 1942 secret weapons demo a lot I think. It had a jet pack and rifle grenades.
