The primary reason the em dash is continuously being brought up is the way ChatGPT has been using it as almost a watermark per se - Not using dashes or hyphens in the classical sense but using em dashes generously.
This first made its rounds about six months ago when someone noticed youtube comments all using the same pattern of em dashes. Looking into it more it became obvious they were just bots.
The same thing happened with reddit, many comments started to pop up with the em dashes, and this watermark of AI commenting proliferated.
Normal people do not use an em dash, it takes extra steps and its just not a thing people do. Its a rarity, not the common thing that these bot comments have made it.
This has been discussed here on 4chan, here on /pol/, numerous times previously, long before this trump thing.
