>>510760394 (OP)The powers that be thought the Christian Right was going to be a terror forever.
Honestly, look at South Park and the commentary/interviews the makers gave back then.
Season 1, they talk about how Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride caused massive shit storms that they had to change the title of the episode for broadcast, they had to argue with the channel, all sorts of shit.
Then by Season 7, not long after, one of the biggest trends in the US was metrosexuality.
The Christian Right had self-destructed in that time because as it turns out, most people didn't give a fuck about gays, never heard of trannies, and were tired of religious nutjobs telling them what to do.
This was in part a reaction to 9/11 as well because that was a time period where Abortion clinics were getting shot up and bombed, and now religious fundamentalists from a different religion were also blowing shit up.
The fact George W. also claimed religion to explain what he did further pissed people off.
So generally that bogeyman that was supposed to keep people fighting amongst themselves died (it would come back later but that's not pertinent to the discussion).
Then with the housing market crash, great recession, whatever you want to call it, now that there was no bogeyman, a grassroots movement recognizing the issues of class in the US started to form.
Occupy Wall Street.
Most media at the time tried to pretend OWS didn't exist, until the idea to infiltrate it with IdPol came up.
IdPol/Wokeism/etc took off like a wildfire because once it started to get pushed (by people who got rich for pushing it), the media started focusing on that and only that.
And suddenly Americans had a reason to hate each other again instead of hating the rich assholes who run everything.
I'm curious what the next trend will be, given we're seeing signs that suggest most americans have stopped giving a fuck about IdPol and just want an economy that doesn't cater to the investor class.
