I've never heard the word "cope" being used in normal conversations in daily life until this site started using it in the late 2010's and then other sites on the internet adopted it. Now it's a buzzword being used constantly anytime someone isn't constantly negative or cynical towards everything on principle. You simply CANNOT recover from anything no matter what. Because our culture is catered towards the lowest common denominator consumer. We see coping as a failure instead of a step that gets you towards growth. This is the central dynamic. Being provocatively cynical and negative is like, idk, socio-linguistically evolutionarily adaptive. It's much easier to shut down or redirect a conversation towards negativity by employing this than it is to redirect it towards positivity, so the net effect is that everything trends toward negativity over time
