Martin Scorsese is overrated.

Can you believe the song New York is just from his stupid movie? Frank Sinatra only recorded it in 1980? That's so crazy. That the song is just from 1980. 1977 with Marty and Liza originally sung it. I had no idea. I thought that song was like 100 years old.

Do you have a peer reviewed source for that claim?

He's incredibly overrated. It's just that he's been consistently okay for a very long time.
Coppola may have artistically burned out but absolutely nothing Scorsese did is on the level of Apocalypse Now or The Godfather.

Its fine to have personal preferences but taxi driver, the king of comedy, goodfellas, casino, the departed and the wolf of wallstreet are all of the same caliber of kino as either of those babies first coppolas and to claim other wise is pure contarianism nonsense. Overrated is the single most meaningless and subjective criticisms ever conceieved that relys on some head canon you invented because you saw a piece of art more than you and its pathetic but not surprising you have yo resort to this tired claim to make your arguement

shutter island is uniquely perfect. I feel like it should be revered along the lines of reservoir dogs but nobody cares.

he finished the unreliable evil guilty narrator genre because he just killed it.

Scorsese has about a dozen other great and varried films that probably deserve to be in the conversation as well but to make my arguement i decided to go for the obvious choices. Of the ones I've seen Mean streets, alice doesn't live here anymore, new york new york, the last waltz(arguably the greatest concert film of all time), raging bull, after hours, the last temptation of christ, cape fear and no direction home are fantastic

I agree but that doesn't mean I dislike Scorseses work.
If you want a good example of Scorsese being a hack watch Infernal Affairs(Hong Kong movie) and then watch his remake The Departed.
The plot moves along as though he didn't get the original.

I would much rather rewatch Emperor's New Groove right now than Mean Streets.
Talk about some real kino!
