Oil Leak - Canada (near Maidstone, SK)
While this article
(https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatoon/cenovus-dealing-with-uncontrolled-release-at-oil-well-near-lloydminster-1.7533585)
states little, I have second hand information that they cracked the caprock layer of the formation, and that the leak is therefore not contained to a small area, but that produced water is surfacing in nearby fields.

I can only find the 1 article on the event.
Does anyone know more?

While Canadian oil and gas is cleaner than most, Canada is still a shit country.

I'm thinking they will try to inject gel to control the leak. They typically use gel to move fluid underground.

They are injecting steam, and I found videos of multiple releases. Second hand information, I hear these release spots span miles.
I believe it's the Mannville Group formations, about 400m deep.

Kek you don't remember that oil spill that happened in Alaska in the 80s took like 30y to clean up and still fucks shit up to this day.

The drilling in the Artic National wildlife refuge dispite the gas and oil offshore there is another interesting topic as global warming heats up, you just have no idea the amount of resources and shit in North America our technology can now find and reach and reclaim compared to mines and pickaxes nowadays. They have drones that see underground and can find diamond nodes...

Meanwhile, this exact situation 80 years ago at the Leduc 1 drilling rig has everyone cheering and celebrating all the money that was raining down from the sky.

Saskatchewan oil, with established Alberta industry and support will create the economic powerhouse as envisioned by Ralph Klein when he held the paid in full sign above his head and beer was less than 1$, but in current year it's an environmental disaster and everything is flammable now.

In the artic you can see bitumen naturally occurring in some recessions out on the land. I know one community has a few strange spots that always pool up with black liquid from the ground.

They also have diamond geodes in the streams but throw them into the sea because they don't want people to come there kek.

It's that it's in the groundwater.
Also, this is geothermal oil. The steam is injected at temperatures 100 Celsius above wood's ignition temperature.

Near Fort McMurray, Suncor has probes in the ground to monitor temperatures. Sidenote, years ago they tried to find unmarked/unplugged wells that they drilled, in the case steam escapes. They didn't find them all...

oil and gas fag here. an uncontrolled release. can be as little as 1 bbls of oil, since this article is from may im sure its fine. also the oil is not really a concern since it can be cleaned up relatively easy, it the production water that is the problem. it is full of salt (nacl & mgcl) and is 10x more saltier than ocean water, the smell from pumping water downhole to kill it is from organic matter being introduced turning the well sour (h2s). sounds like poor training, the employee who said they had lost control of the well is a moron, my ICS training taught me to never ever say you've lost control. also exatracting oil with steam is a great idea, will have to look into it, sounds like they are fracking with steam.

have you ever heard of gas lift? its where they inject natural gas into the tubing downhole to lower the weight of the fuild column and allow downhole pressure to lift the emulsion. its actually a very efficient way to produce oil. tubing will last 5+ yrs. it is big in north dakota.

you have to complete the fire teiangle for it to be hazardous and there is not oxygen underground. flamable gas is not even a concern on an oil pad. most new weΔΊls come in at 5000psi and are full of gas.

Really depends on formation. Lots of shallow wells don't have any surface pressure, even when new.
