Additionally: how reliable would drone counters be? Are we talking about nullification of a drone advantage, leading to continued armored dominance for full-scale invasion, or does air dominance become everything, with mechanized infantry having cleanup duty? If the latter, perhaps robot-assisted infantry will replace armor. The robots will be strong enough to carry some of the heavier munitions that previously required a manned crew.

A fragile stalemate is in effect between the two exhausted, poorly-supplied, and undermanned armies. The vast empty areas between the two sides are patrolled by Autonomous Mobile Swords (AMS)โ€”AI-powered robots developed by Alliance scientists. Nicknamed "Screamers" after their signature high-pitched noise, they target creatures with a heartbeat. Alliance soldiers wear "tabs" that disguise their heartbeats, rendering them invisible to the machines.

This is pure bs. Tanks are still used daily, and actual troops in the trenches still fear them the most, cause a single tank shell does more damage than hundred drones. The only thing that changed is that tanks are now used as close-range arty, not as an assault spearhead.
And the only reason why drones are still a thing at all - is that all the brass in the world waits for someone else to develop a counter so they can just steal it, instead of investing into it themselves.

Drones are a thing because air superiority is important. No further explanation required.

Why use tanks for arty if you can just use arty for arty? If tanks devolve into that role, then their structure will eventually shift to match those parameters. Current tanks could be used in that role, but the future may not have the same old "tank" usecase or structure.

Russia is finished. Tanks and artillery were the only advantages they had and not only are the ones that they had in storage at the start of the war all of them completely destroyed, but their replacements are also all of them destroyed. If your t-90, or Msta-S self-propelled artillery or your S-400 can easily be destroyed by a handful of $400 drones then Russia is done for. Mass armor Zerg rush was their only real strategy that they relied on in their final desperate attempt to try and expand their fake and gay empire and now that can easily be countered by low cost, ubiquitous tech. It's over.

Here's the most common task: you need to take a position. Drones won't do shit to it - they only damage vehicles because of shaped charges, and are useless even against a regular wall. Smart arty would cost too much, and dumb arty can miss and expose itself. So you roll a tank at range, and shoot at the position with cheap dumb munition, but you are more mobile, have more armor and can shoot faster than a regular arty.

tanks still have a use, we will just see a return of dreadnought style tanks, more as support role than anti armor role. the future tanks will be big heavy crude things with lots of machine guns for clearing trenches and bunkers and such. tank vs tank warfare will be pretty obselete sent drones do that better

we will also see a similar evolution for apcs, big huge catepillar boxes with limited armament and FOV but great survivability against drones and RPGs and the like

Future is small groups of people and designated jammers, and then designed target/drone operation.

Pretty much dudes running around with Nintendo power gloves pointing and pinky down for a drone strike, or middle finger down to mark artillery, pointer finger down for Mark position on friendly HUD, combinations for other things.
While two dudes work together on anti-drone and then have shotguns.
Motorcycle based infantry, or even countermeasures transportable by quad or what have you.
Too expensive to have too many people in one mobile unit so the switch to assault bikes and then purpose built ATVs is the logical step, until we have hovercraft.

Also mining. Not the metal kind is a thing now. Expect iron harvests and red zones, forever.

man, war just gets progressively lamer and lamer as technology improves (there was a brief exception when they started using fighter planes). We need gundams.

On the subject of the actual video, I'm surprised by the pivot from a rational argument based on realistic costs and logistics to WE'RE GONNA BUILD A GIANT WALL HAHA, THE BIG WALL WILL SURELY STOP THE DRONES
I think they might be better off actually diverting the wall budget towards an attempted gundam. At least the gundam could maybe be a tourist attraction like the one in Japan that might make money for more drones.

What moment in this war and all the webms of the carnage made you realize you never wanted to support or be a part of any of it? Phase two, or three of the sign tapping is they will constantly talk about all the new wunderwaffles that we have now, like the single shot net launcher, the shotgun 5.56 rounds that are good for 60yds, when and explosive carried by that drone has a higher distance.

I can only imagine the relief of shooting a drone with a net launcher only to have it self destruct 20ft away and blind you and cut off your balls, versus kill you.

Also why aren't NAFO troops trained to not kill themselves to force them to use less ammo on their fellow Redditors?

Japan has Gundam technology, the issue is making enough lightweight armor and a propulsion system to reduce weight on the parts while In earth gravity, however this fucks up everything behind it when the Japanese try reinacting their Godzilla movies in their cities, and starts fires.

If we could make mini nuclear reactors smaller, we would significantly advance the process of building them.
The power draw to move them can also be reduced by making hollow armor and reactive armor versus solid metal.

power is too brittle, overheating and energy supply, you need a fuckload of power to continuously supply a long range laser, even if its only to blind the drones optics its got to be incredibly accurate, and be able to rapidly pivot from drone to drone, be able to shoot in all trajectories, plus its expensive, nah, a mobile C-RAM spewing airburst flecttetes would have much greater range at much lower cost, probably more resilient in harsh conditons too

The issue isn't the price of shot, it's the cost, size, complexity, and maintenance needs of a platform to operate. A microwave shield can be set up which has no moving parts, and can always operate at max capacity. You want to use AI controlled robotic shotgun turrets? Ok, how much ammo do you it to have? Now you have to lug that much ammo around. You have to have the logistics to resupply it. You have dozens to hundreds of moving parts to maintain. Look at a phalanx turret: majority of the bulk of a phalanx turret is its magazine.

>>510919994

Using these you can use armor again in more roles, or start to take and hold things versus WW1 trench style gayness.

Yeah, developing platforms that can carry, say a cell of 24, 48 of these "bottle rockets" would be the same as having moarter you fire from above.
The .51 gyrojet is probably the closest example of how that would work in real life, the idea being it's 'dumb' and can't be jammed once launched and will just detonate with a sensor that tells it how far from the ground it is, most acceleration happening in the first stages, and then gravity.

Simplicity and stupid easy for mass production are how you win wars. A missile that takes two years to build has less, but some uses. China went hard on missiles so that will be interesting.

That is the fun part about the series, everybody has free access to basically infinite amount of exos (the only expensive part is giving them armour), yet irl it still would be more efficient to just send drones rather than arming exos and mounting them to battle, they still get killed as easy normal infantry.

it just fucking sucks what is actually happening

remember an iddiot who is ex mill is more valuable to a random person in a random situation (if the mill did a good job) than a genious (this is life ofc the genious is way better but the mill can and will be actively useful in all situations the genious normally needs a ton of shit)

Spray foam. Anything that makes it fall.
>Fleet tactics.
1 x slab of metal land crusher tank.
5 x outrider vehicles knocking down drones
10 x flame dogo robots
Like the navy does it.
You could even have an aircraft carrier vehicle launching drones as well as a battleship conventional tank.
Naval tactics.
Navies met THE SAME PROBLEM when war aircraft were developed. So look to naval history for inspiration.

All tanks need a buddy system. Have a mobile anti air platform with a 20mm autocanon on it always be escorting the tank. Think of it as a return to Pike and Shot but with vehicles.

The Pikeman protects the Musketeer from melee charges, the Musketeer protects the Pikeman from ranged attacks.

The AA platform defends the Tank from Drone attacks, the Tank defends the AA platform from Infantry and other Tanks.

Additionally, a solution may not be more armor, but more speed and maneuverability and better optics inside the tank. So maybe a true return to Light Tanks, or even open top tanks like the WW2 era Tank Destroyers had. No more of this feature creep BS we get out of the MIC. No more Bookers or Bradley's. Just make an actual fucking cheap and fast light tank.

With any luck the damage potential will get too high and people will start having to calm down and realize that press-ganging a few million men to their death (I'm not just talking about Ukraine) just isn't worth it when anyone can take down your tank/airbase/building with less than a grand of shit they can order on alibaba/ebay/amazon whatever. It's like Leto banning shields in the Dune series; just too dangerous; with any luck we'll eventually have a taboo against it.

There really is no reason why Russia can't just lob rockets into ukraine forever until it's all dust.

The issue is that politicians all want to conquer land instead of their enemies and throw their own citizens into brutalist wars that kill them off.

I know I posted a rather archaic version of that type of vehicle, but do you really not understand the concept of modern SPAA? Right now, the problem is tracking targets the size of drones, but its not impossible.

My guess is drones will become much more limited when/if SPAA becomes more widespread and the radar systems get to the point of being able to track drones effectively. I actually wonder if the US or other nations have this already, but are keeping it classified.

Armor is more than just tanks. Tanks have been obsolete for decades now. Man portable weapons can disable them. Helicopters eat them for lunch. Close are support vaporizes them. First generation drones like predator could already deny their operation in an entire theater. As could ieds for that matter. Not our fault russia was stuck in ww2 era strategy and had to learn the hard way what the rest of us knew since the 80s.

But apcs, especially with tow missiles, were still useful. Artillery arguably still is. Not the manually loaded shit pulled behind a truck they use in russia or in ww2, but the modern and accurate autoloaded artillery of today. Able to empty its magazine, timed to hit simultaneously, and already on the move before it lands. All miles outside of drone range.

What drones render obsolete is infantry. It cuts through them like butter and renders most modern tactics irrelevant.

That being said I'd love to see active defense be practical. Ai is very nearly there. Stuff like cwis has come a long way. It would be a game changer in terms of design, especially since hypersonics are far too expensive to take them out individually. Probably a pipe dream and I would not bet on it. Plus being able to avoid radar, lidar, or even visual recognition will always be both faster and cheaper than upgrading the defense. But it would be so cool.

Tiny drones have been worked on here since the 0โ€™s.
Chinese propaganda showed a plastic non functioning one in some Wangs hand recently and Reuters - the many mouths of the NWO - went crazy saying that china had developed them busily mixing that 2 second clip with all kinds of non related documentary footage to, as usual, lie to the world about their retarded globocommunist pets capabilities (which are limited to 1990โ€™s children's RC toys IRL).
A drone could crawl into your colonels tent through the grass. They do not have to fly.
Dogo drones are deployed right now by Ukraine with flame thrower mouths. In response Russia has deployed the scuttling Igor. Pic related. The only problem with the scuttling Igor design is how much room the hump takes up in the meat cubes they end up in.

North korea for sure would. Because it is extremely asymmetrical. The government would topple within a week and the rest of the time spent painstakingly ferreting out hold outs from caves and bunkers. They are not a peer. They are not even iraq's peer.

China would not. Not by a long shot. It would be too expensive to use for occupation and of no value before that.

i wonder if purpose built cope tanks, super dreadnoughts that exist soley to eat drones could be essentially immune to shaped light explosives, which is what drones are.

the ones they use now are modded after the fact but you could do crazy stuff from a factory, like have a layer of armor, another layer of wire, another layer of armor and then something stupid like rubber, would be able to soak up huge punishment

I still say 50 bmg is the way to go. Better speed, better range, already mass produced, already cheap, and already easily integrated with electronics.

22 lr has reliability problems, more so when auto loaded. Also effectiveness drops drastically at 100 yards.

Buckshot with current plastic cartridges also fails at high speed auto loading. Range limit 70 yards. If you let a drone within 70 yards you have failed. If you can effectively clear an area ten times that you can also have fewer units.

Still not optimistic. It will still be cheaper to mass produce drones that defeat the detection. But it will probably be attempted.

i'm assuming as long as the velocity is high enough, even a small caliber uranium round could penetrate relatively thick steel armor depending on the range.

although drones with panzerfaust types of payloads seem to be very effectively. just poke a small hole and fill the inside with some spice.

Honestly explosively formed perpetrators are the only reason this isn't a thing. Turns out you can do it a lot cheaper. Otherwise we would be seeing depleted uranium recoiless rifles. It is not extreme overkill. The mass is what helps it maintain momentum at range. A well trained human can keep a 2 inch group at 1000 yards. With bog standard military ammo. With match grade ammo and decent data on atmospheric conditions 2500 yards is possible. Which is sufficient to protect from drones.

Traversal isn't that bad. No it won't be able to defend against a 360 degree sustained onslaught. But look at existing 50 bmg systems. Saab Trackfire RWS can traverse 120 degrees a second, FN's FN America's deFNde medium can do 90 degrees a second. They can both already be mounted on light vehicles. Enough to create a an effective barrier and when used in unison defend an area.

>Now you have to lug that much ammo around. You have to have the logistics to resupply it. You have dozens to hundreds of moving parts to maintain. Look at a phalanx turret: majority of the bulk of a phalanx turret is its magazine.

Maybe this is what the tank itself evolves into. The tank can be, or at least classically has been used in partnership with infantry. The infantry protects the tank against rpgs and the tank provides fire support for the infantry. So this future might be providing close air support for ground troops surrounding it.

One big way this falls apart is that you have long range drones providing reconnaissance. Once a tank is spotted it and its surrounding infantry can be targeted with artillery.

So: maybe MPLADS (man portable local air defense system) needs to be developed and added at the squad level, and one or two grunts hump that MF around. This is maybe your phalanx cannon with birdshot. Maybe boston dynamics adds it to a big dog.

the problem with a hypothetical MPLADS system is is is still a complex expensive target and infantry would cluster around it for protection - making the squad an easy target for fragmentation artillery. And this pushes for dispersing the squad. So maybe MPLADS has to be at the fire-team level. It also needs to be small. Maybe it is your own local drone with enough camera and compute to give half-spherical coverage, with enough intelligence to navigate around independently following the team. It could communicate with the team verbally over local comms telling individual members to move some meters left or right for cheap falling bombs while it targets the source and or bomb itself.

But at what point do you just say fuck it and just turn the sky black with cheap AI powered things and whoever with the best supply chain wins. Just overwhelm any defense with mass, including some laser thing.

Yes, drones have both changed and democratized warfare in ways that are only beginning to be appreciated. It would be revolutionarily wise to maybe stock up on some fiber optic drones with maybe 2 kilometers of range. Thatโ€™s an incredible force equalizer. Itโ€™s amazing way a few of those things can do. Some decent drones have up to 20kilogram payload. Thatโ€™s astonishing. 44 pounds of many things that come to mind can do mind blowing things.
It is a game changer in all ways. Now, even the most poorly supported fighting force can defend themselves in ways they never could before. Actually seizing land becomes prohibitively dangerous.

60 drones, two armored blyatbarns with zero visibility so they're not a tank anymore. They have zero visibility, zero optics, and are relying on some retard on a radio to guide them to drop off their subhumans in a treeline.
two T-72 tanks are $2,400,000 + $100,000 (conservative estimate on armoring a blyatmobile)

Again, 60 that they told you about. The average overall over hundreds of thousands of missions is a 4% hit rate. Apply that to the required 60 hits (which btw did NOT destroy the tank, a AT mine did) and youโ€™re looking at vastly more to kill the tank than to make the tanks.

>>510932098
T-72s only cost that much when they are the latest version. As we can see these are I upgraded versions theyโ€™ve hacked together. Ie the price per tank is significantly less.

So far the AT mine is the most singularly effective weapon against tanks. As shown again and again.

We're talking about a completely different set of TWO armored personnel carriers, you fucking retard. Not whatever the fuck you are coping about. And "uhh my average also applies to this engagement!" is just you being fucking retarded. That's not how that works. You can watch the full video on telegram of the two tanks getting hit with the drones.
They're not tanks at that point. They have no offensive capacity. They have no optics or targeting systems. They have no offensive capacity other than the subhumans in the cage of death that will die as soon as they arrive at their destination and try to dismount, which is far riskier because they have to work their way out of an armored deathtrap.
They're simply using them because they've meaningfully run out of APCs.

>ignoring the fact that it takes dozens of these drones, on average, over several hours, to get a kill on an isolated tank that was sent on an unsupported suicide mission by a russian commander who can collect the salary for the dead tankers if he doesn't have to pay them
we're overlearning the lessons of this war, which has become static attritional warfare due to neither side being able to establish air superiority.
FPV and grenade dropping drones have existed since ~2014-2015. They've become a huge deal in Ukraine because Ukraine can't get enough good weapons, so it's specialized in what it can get. Which is more economical but not nearly as good at getting expeditious and timely kills on enemy assets.
It's true that drones are more economical than other solutions but it's better to have a pointed action where you destroy key assets and break an opposing force rather than attriting it over months or years, any war of attrition will become more expensive.

In a mobile war where you can establish and maintain air supremacy drones become significantly less relevant, except as an insurgent/terrorist weapon but if you're in that mode you've probably already lost the war.

Anon it takes a special kind of wilfully stupid to say this. The Russo-Ukraine war has been predominately an artillery war and drones most significant contribution has been their roll in making artillery even more effective to the point it can guide a single artillery shell to a tank.

All those drone suicide videos are just flashy propoganda videos far more armored vehicles were taken out by guided artillery.
