I also 100% believe Trump decided to jump on grenades to protect Pam. I know and others probably saw it too because we've all done the same thing for others we know made missteps and we care for. This whole thing is going to blow over as people come to the realization that there is no "client list" and Pam lied about having a list of that sort on her desk in the first place, but it was an unforced error brought on by, as you said, unnecessary bravado.
