For a couple reason:
1.) The attack on Israel gave them reason to kill innocent people in Gaza under the guise of destroying Hamas.
2.) Both U.S. support and it's strength in the world is flailing. In another 10 years it might not be possible for Israel to kill everyone around them, so they are doing it now while the U.S. is still capable of both arming and protecting them.
