My theory is that it's the internet. In the past, if you wanted to do something, you couldn't be retarded. You couldn't be a retard and write a book, or become a journalist, or a politician. You had to have some baseline level of intelligence. Even if a dumbfuck managed to get into politics, whether that be as a consoomer or as a producer, they'd have nobody to share or discuss their retarded ideas with.

But that all changed when the internet came about. More specifically, when smartphones came about. Since then, any old retard can reach billions of other retards at any second. Doesn't take any intelligence at all to tweet some shit, or make a tiktok. And no matter how dogshit your take is you will get swarmed with other helmet-wearing speds agreeing with you. We made it too easy for retards to spread their ideas. From there it's just snowballed.
