Every Israeli "victory" is really just cashing American cheques. American aircraft. American bombs. American money. American spy satellites. American back doors in electronics. American intimidation of the rest of the world to ignore what Israel is doing. This is obviously not sustainable in the long term, because America is a power in relative decline. Yet Israel has blown all chances of building local alliances.
Sure, the Israel has racked up a huge body count in Gaza. But Gaza never mattered anyway, except as a public relations matter. And in that realm, Israel seems to be losing miserably. Hezbollah is wounded and Assad is gone. But it's clear that Hezbollah's rockets had already been made obsolete by Iron Dome. Iran now apparently has built a sufficiently large and advanced missile arsenal that they no longer need to rely on Hezbollah to deter Israel. Assad's only importance was to provide a way for Iran to supply Hezbollah with rockets. So does it even matter?
The fact that the sanctions on Iran are becoming less effective for each month that passes and that Israel is losing the long-term strategic game is probably why they tried to take out Iran directly - it's now or never. Yet they apparently failed. Trump and Netanyahu were boldly talking about unconditional surrender and regime change in Iran, then suddenly they backed down from that goal and opted for a quick exit for some reason, presumably because it turned out they could not suppress Iranian missile launches enough
