We're Fucked
These spotted lanterflies, an invasive species are everywhere now. Once you start noticing, you can't stop.
The ecosystem is FUCKED. I don't see MORE invasive species of insect and plant when I go out than native, but I see enough that it's very, very disturbing.

>Lanternflies everywhere
>Gypsy moth caterpillars all over
>Invasive species of ladybugs swarms a biting variety that lives infests houses
>A plague of "mustard garlic" a plant that emits a natural herbicide killing every other plant in the soil taking over like kudzu.

What invasive species are you noticing fucking the environment? (ah shit I know where the answer to this is gonna go be serious ffs get it out of your system then talk about plants and insects)

Went out foraging today and saw HUNDREDS of these fuckers, it's ridiculous and they're hideous. Oh the ecosystem is screwed long term and I don't have good answers for it, except for garlic mustard you can eat them oin the fall and spring then they're delicious. But yeah once you get into identifying plants, insects, and humans you realize there's invasive crap everywhere.

Just gather up a load of your own species and send them to where this one came from. Eco-swap.
Invasive pests always do better, regardless of where it is. You would think an established ecosystem would be resistant, be able to find a balance and block out disruptions, but the truth is that nature gets lazy and complacent. The foreign always supplants the native. That's why you have to leave and go invade their land, which will wind up being very easy to do.

Last year, for the first time, I had a crazy amount of ticks on my property. Have never had that many ticks here ever, not even a single one. Neighbor had a flock of chickens and guinea fowl roaming around free range for the whole year and haven't had a tick since then. I'm kinda worried though because I think they got attacked by some type of animal and he's been keeping them in a fenced in area now. I might have to get my own flock now.

Kinda sad because I was enjoying the chickens in my yard without any type of responsibility to care for them personally.

fun fact: the Darien Gap in Panama is the only thing stopping a ton of could-be invasive species migrating from South America to North America, because it puts a halt to human traffic between the two continents. but as the Darien Gap becomes a more popular route for migrants, the containment is starting to break. things are gonna get much worse.

these things are edible. Before you laugh, they excrete Honeydew. they literally bleed out something like Honey. you can collect these species and farm them for honeydew and sell it. even bees will collect their honeydew to make Honey. its collected along with pollen.

All you have to do is collect them, they'll breed off the hook. supplie them with lots of bark and shit that they eat. and then just nick them and thell bleed out this honeydew that is like plague in humans. its their way of healing wounds.

Pure honeydew is expensive af. takes a lot to collect it but the thing is, the bugs live and then you nick them more.

They need to banned. They kill many birds because they're sociopaths. Their owners need to charged, and the cat taken away from them if they're caught outside.

Mint is worse than aspen trees. You can chop the trees over the course of 3 years and it will no longer grow back.

>Lanternflies everywhere

I haven't seen those. In western NC, we have those bullshit fake Chinese ladybugs and we have Japanese beetles.

Plant wise there's kudzu obviously; but also I'm seeing a lot of this Chink Tree of Heaven, pic related. Nothing particularly offensive about it but its super hardy and hard to kill. You cut it down and the damned thing pops back up, you cut the saplings down to the ground and they come back.

https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/ailanthus-altissima/

North Carolina is apparently pretty close in climate to China so most of the invasive plants we get are Chinese.

Queerest meme on this whole site.

I've never used leddit, I've been shit posting here since 06 and I like putting spaces between the different thoughts I have to help keep me organized. For years I've gotten newfags telling me that I'm spacing like its fucking leddit and I don't even know how to use leddit.

Wait till you learn about birds. There's a huge number of foreign species you just accept as normal. Cats, for example.

NC is humid sub-tropical, just like the most heavily populated parts of China and Japan, so pretty much all of their major flora and fauna are potentially invasive. In fact, there's a lot of genera that are represented both here and there, like you have native lotus flowers. Issue of course is that the invasive species outcompetes its native relative in the same genera if local control factors are too specialized and can't adapt. As for that tree of heaven, the biggest issue with it is just that male flowers smell like shit. If you have a female tree, the issue is just the typical crowding out of local trees.

Yeah; but NC is like the most populated part of China. I don't think we're getting a lot of invasive species from Tibet or the Gobi desert.

The chinks sent military men with giant bags full of seeds, animals and infected ticks into our national forests during covid. What was a natural issue through travel is no worse and deliberate. Take the murder hornets as they are called in US. We have had sighting of them since the 70's but due to the low population of honey bees, native bees and the likes it means it was never really an issue. Now if you release a bunch of them around bee keepers it will suddenly grow to a massive problem.

Been living in the northeast for 6 years and never saw them and now they are everywhere. Filthy chink insects. Fucking crazy you just mentioned them what the fuck. I've been telling everyone to kill them. Sprayed a few on my deck today.

I rarely see spiders nowadays when I saw them around all the time as a kid. Nowadays I actually like it if spiders are chilling near my ass and I don't mind the cobwebs. Rather see them chilling than dealing with other bugs. Come to think of it grasshoppers have also become a LOT more rare. They used to be fucking everywhere.
