>the Ayutthaya kingdom was so rich that they had water cups that were made of solid gold. Literally everything was made of gold. Even their hand fans were gold and they had European countries sucking their dicks

What happened to Southeast Asia?

Any other countries like this have remnants of 600 year old solid gold objects for viewing? Never seen any. Apparently the story goes the main crypts of their temples remained hidden and not plundered until 1950, when they were discovered by thieves and the police hunted the thieves down and found the stolen objects. And then found the crypts.

Interesting. I knew nothing about Ayutthaya or this culture until I visited the ruins this week. I really felt how powerful they were. They were trading with everyone. Persians. China. Europe etc. very powerful nation at the time. I am fascinated by ancient eastern cultures. There is even a ruins here sort of shaped like a cathedral with clear European inspiration. And the last ayathayya king had a Christian son before he was assassinated in a coup.

It’s kinda hidden away in the city of Ayutthaya. There was literally one other person there. It’s insane. It was raining today but still I loved it. Cost 200 baht to get in for a foreigner. Which is like $5. More than worth it. The city is built around all the ruins. There’s temples everywhere. A main tourist section where the biggest ruins are. But there’s temples bridges and other decoration everywhere you can see for free. It was amazing. It’s insane how you can literally just walk off with pieces of an ancient civilization if you wanted to. But everyone has such respect for the place. There was no graffiti anywhere or anything.

Because those are replicas. Most of their gold relics were stolen by IJA in WWII and collected by Yamashita. When the US island hopping is happening, he realized that they're in danger so he ordered to have them buried in the mountains of Luzon and buried the native slave labor they used. After the war, local Filipino politicians had backroom deals with the new Japanese government for the maps and most of those were dug out under the guise of "Japan-funded infrastructure projects" alongside the post-war reparations. That's the reason why Japan loved to send money to Philippines in the 50s-60s, it's to funnel out all those Southeast Asian gold they stole all over the region. Japan's post-war economic miracle was backed by the gold they held right after the war.

I'm talking about most of the gold. There's not much gold relics in the region today because of Japan. In the past there were 15-foot golden buddhas. That region, India included, held most of the gold in the world for most part of history. People there were obsessed with gold. India's story is similar, but it was the Brits who sucked most of the gold out of India and Burma instead.

Oh definitely most of the gold was plundered. It’s a shame. Especially with how liberal Japan was with their own gold. Hideyoshi Toyatoma or whatever his name was literally gave it away to the French.

Oh. And I did actually take a photo of one of the gates of the main city. I’m sure a lot of it crumbled and is lost. But you can get an idea of the original height maybe. Another thing. In the city outskirts there’s 1 gate sitting randomly behind a school. The story goes there used to be 200 gates like that to get into the kingdom.

The video has a comprehensive interactive touch and play tour of the sword and how it was restored. The tip was broken in 3 pieces and mentioned that.

Close up for the details. Btw the sword is cool enough to have a name. It’s called the “Ayutthaya Sword of Victory” or the victory sword.

Copper and Silver are better conductors. Gold is mostly great because it doesn't oxidize. Hence why contacts get gold.

Japan was never a gold nation in most of its history. They aren't geographically blessed with metals and most of their pre-Meiji gold were from envoy gifts from China and Korea. They only started mining after the Meiji restoration and their eventual expansion to Hokkaido, the island that's actually blessed with gold veins for some geological reason. They started to value gold because they saw Europeans valued it highly as they rapidly westernized into a modern empire.

>shiny metal equals wealth
Uhh, not really.. It's a shiny cup. A clay cup would have been equally good. You're not rich unless you can trade gold for something that's been produced. Without production and an actual economy, gold is just another metal.
