Star Trek society, can we build it?
The Star Trek society had basically a socialistic system. There was no money and all basic needs were free. Can we achieve something similar in the future?

Yeah, I also think we will have a period of societal collapse, but tech will be not lost, so eventually we could build such a society, maybe not fully free of money, but you are given enough to have all the basic needs covered. Rest of the resources will be given to people which contribute to the society, based for example on a social rating.

They never get into land/property rights which is one of those things I wish they did. Even in the future there are probably millions who want that restaurant on Bourbon street or a vineyard in France but only a handful of people can have that. I also find the concept of a commute interesting because O'Brien was getting a job in San Fransisco and was trying to figure out with his wife if they will live in Japan or Ireland.

It's called communism, and every time it was tried, the people in charge of providing for the rest of the society somehow didn't do a good job for free. The communist wet dream is to be leading "the people", what they ignore is their toilet needs fixing, or somebody has to dig in the dirt to grow food. And people in charge of shitty but necessary jobs for some reason don't want to do it unless they are either compensated for it or they need to survive somehow.
I'm not saying the US version of capitalism, where necessities are monopolized and most of the money is made by squeezing consumers for necessities is much better, but at least it works. Communism just doesn't work with any current population, hence the need for repressions every communist government has to go through to scare people into compliance.

I've been thinking lately about the ST universe. Say you're a human living on Earth and aren't interested in traveling the galaxy or joining the federation. In fact, you just want to spend your days in a holodeck and drink synthetic booze all night. Can you just fuck around and do nothing like this? Like, you aren't compelled to enlist in Starfleet and there are no economic or material barriers to compel you to work, so can you just literally fuck off and do nothing while living comfortably?

Implication is that you'd grow bored with that and try to do something meaningful with your life. What they really need is to introduce some kind of rumspringa where everyone who didn't enlist went through what you described and most have an epiphany to study plants or some shit.

There was some economist in the early 20th century that said "if things go by that pace we ll only work 20 hours a week".

not with niggers kikes jeets spics or chinks. the concept of a multiculti perfect society is absolute fallacy. even if white people only existed, we'd still need about 100 years of eugenics and selective breeding to weed out sociopaths, psychopaths, retards (sorry downie bros), and other mental illnesses from the gene pool. Only THEN could we even start to think about an interstellar communist utopia

From chatgpt:

The economist you're thinking of is John Maynard Keynes. In his 1930 essay titled "Economic Possibilities for our Grandchildren," Keynes predicted that due to technological advancement and productivity growth, people would eventually work much less. Specifically, he foresaw that by around the year 2030, people in developed countries might only need to work 15 to 20 hours a week to meet their basic needs.

Here's a key quote from that essay:

"Three-hour shifts or a fifteen-hour week may put off the problem for a great while."

Keynes believed that the main economic problem—scarcity—would be largely solved, and the challenge would shift to how people use their newfound leisure time meaningfully.

Of course, his prediction hasn’t fully come to pass, largely due to changing consumption patterns, inequality, and cultural factors around work. But the idea remains a powerful thought experiment on the future of labor and prosperity.

>There was no money and all basic needs were free.
they also had infinite free energy and devices that made food and pretty much whatever else required
so no, until we have such a level of energy and devices, we cant have that
we could have already had free energy but Edison and JP Morgan had no interest in bettering society unless they could rape shit tons of money in the process

You know, Star Trek society wasn't the Enterprise interior.. most places don't have replicators, and Star Fleet can be stingy with them. On Earth, there are zounds of people living in commie blocks eating goy slop because they're mediocre. Nor does everyone get into Star Fleet.
So yeah, I think it's doable. Need to first start promoting based on merit, so that means firing every nigger and woman from most jobs, because Star Trek society is merit based, not free shit for everyone. Shit, even officers on Federation Star Ships don't have full access to the replicator menu and that literally costs Star Fleer zero to provide.

If I could just have the weekend never end and have infinite money, I would be fine with never working again.
If I had the legit option right now I would go for it. I'm not really abnormal in this respect, there would be almost the whole population just enjoying themselves instead of working.
My job isn't even that bad but it can't compete with the weekend and my time off.

I suppose. But what would even be the point of, say, studying plants? They have scanners that will give all information on a plant, even a new one, in seconds. Wouldn't that just be a hobby or distraction? Or is there a level of society we never see, where like 30% of the population is living lives of quiet despair or hedonistic debauchery? Or else they are rehabbed after a while and (if you see elements of fascism in ST Earth) simply conscripted to some sort of makework job to keep you occupied so you're not just laying around in a holosuite having endless orgies fuelled by synthetic Exstasy? Suicide rate must be high on ST Earth.

Alright OP, I'll truthfully answer your question.

Could we have a Star Trek like society? Absolutely. It's not even far fetched. Everything Star Trek portrayed, outside of space travel/replicators, is possible at this very moment. But the problem is that the people at the top, businesses, etc, don't want that in the slightest. It takes away from there livlihoods and bragging rights.

Cold fusion has already been figured out behind closed doors. The tech to take us into advanced post-scarcity civilization is likely sitting and waiting for more calm times. Disclosure is already slowly happening (whether you like it or not) and I'm pretty sure a solid 75% of movies and TV are designed to prepare the dumbass population for shit that's gonna break their minds. Cold fusion and tapping into unlimited zero point energy ends up with literal Star Trek replicator and warp drive technology. Regardless of whether we're simply mining resources from other planets, or forging brand new atoms to print out McDonalds chicken nuggets, post-scarcity is possible. We just need to smarten the fuck up as a species to be able to use is responsibly.

Nah in the star trek world humanity is focused on self improvement. It's an aspirational fiction. By the 24th century the meaning of life is the search for the meaning of life. People who don't enlist in starfleet have hobby-jobs. They take an interest and dive into it. You like making gumbo. You start a restaurant for people who want to eat non replicated food. People come in an you give them food. You do it to have something to do and because you feel its something worth doing. It's idealism post scarcity economics mixed with protestant work ethic.
>but humans and bad skinned people are stupid and lazy
Yeah a third world war followed by a eugenics war left the remaining society has an existential Renaissance buoyed by earth's total destruction and contact with an alien race. It's aspirational fiction anchored by the post wwii existential movements in Europe.
