My guess was he initially wanted to cherrypick a few of the big names on the left but that invited too many questions and would force the original documents out into the open for further scrutiny and revelations. Trump has been a friend to Epstein for almost 15 years and is well documented in both photos and witness testimony. They were both very public figures, they knew a lot of influential people outside of their circle. Even if Trump could survive the scrutiny, many powerful people in his circle could not. Even with the files “erased” there are still many people who can come forward with tales of Trumps past indiscretions.
