You cant make it thin/strong enough and it cannot be cleaned easily enough. Cotton is relatively durable, can be made thin, breathes well even with a tight weave, can be cleaned easily, and is cheap.

Cotton is far better than wool for the heat and I have no loyalty to any fabric kek. I wear what works the best and I know what actual heat is and work in it every day for over half of the year.

Over the years I have optimized outdoor clothing for where I live. Synthetic briefs, cotton socks, poly cotton pants tucked into knee high snake boots, a cheap oversized thin fabric polycotton shortsleeve button shirt tucked in and a baseball cap and polarized sunglasses. That is the optimal outfit here at least.

For example once the storms pass, we are projected at 100 degrees Monday and about 65% humidity.

I wear a lot of Italian merino wool turtleneck sweaters in the winter. Merino wool is comfortable but it is just not as durable as cotton.
