Most people don't know it yet; but there is a not-so-quiet revolution happening in the Christian churches; one that is almost guaranteed to schism the churches into two main camps.

Here's the issue in a nutshell...

Understanding Protestantism is key to understanding the erosion of decency in society and the perversion of Christianity. First, it's important to see that its not just "gay stuff" that is the issue, it is just a modern unavoidable and controversial issue. Take divorce for example, abortion, blasphemy in society; all these were unavoidable and controversial in their time, and many mainline protestant churches supported (or at least tolerated) those things before gay stuff became a liberal social cause, but now the concrete has dried on the older issues.
"Protestant" means "in protest" (of the Catholic Church), it is not some new word or cause separate from that, it is a protest, and they follow the same groupthink mindset of any protest we see today. Any modern protest full of people who have no attachment to history or understanding of civics can quickly become full of insane ideas and allow crazy people to warp the original intent; in Protestantism (without the Catholic Church's hierarchy and insistence on sacred tradition) anyone can introduce new doctrine/interpretation that eventually perverts the denomination they're in or creates a new sect based on the new idea. That is how we have so many denominations today: a new interpretation grew and made a home. In the early days of Protestantism it was almost manageable as the few small gripes they had were with the Catholic Church and there was some sense of "once they get rid of that then we can all be together again", but it quickly got out of hand and now it is impossible to reconcile even the protestant denominations let alone return home to the Catholic Church.
Protestantism is like a weed, and the denominations are its different strains, and their churches are like gardens. Anyone can develop new strains that will eventually outgrow the old ones and take over their gardens; so you see how easy it is to turn Protestantism into a factory for heresy and social causes.

What will happen (either naturally or by design), is that there will be another schism; similar to the way the Protestant churches broke off over the issue of Rome (or the pope's) power or (more closely) the second council of nicaea; where the biggest debate of the ages was decided, resulting in a split between those on one side and those on the other.

I'm not saying that the question should be asked, or that it's a good thing it's being asked; or even taking a side either way on the question itself.

I'm saying that just as there were signs as early as the 1830's that the US would eventually face a civil war; so too there are now signs that the church will be forced to choose the lesser of two evils on this question. The revolution is that the question is being asked/forced

But I find it an interesting challenge, considering that the rainbow was initially part of the Christian faith. The rainbow as a sign from God is best standing on its own, it is good to see God everywhere in nature and not to separate yourself from that by thinking that the man-made world and its symbolic landscape is where you belong or were made to exist. As far as its Catholic use it is somewhat, but not directly, represented in the various colors of stoles/vestments that the priests wear for the different liturgical seasons.

They cycle throughout the year and are used to define the theme of the liturgy. Some colors are used more often than others, and in modern times nobody really thinks about what they mean anyway, its somewhat of a minute aesthetic detail.
