Well the LS has over a litre more in displacement. Once you start decreasing displacement but want to maintain power output you have to increase complexity. Less displacement but similar power output requires greater efficiency and lower tolerances.

Itโ€™s why the LS can run on 6 cylinders and burn a quart of oil a week and keep chugging but an Audi explodes if itโ€™s running a little rich.

Theyโ€™re legally required to have less displacement and higher fuel efficiency, so complexity becomes a necessity. Americans arenโ€™t weighed down by those burdens.

>Theyโ€™re legally required to have less displacement and higher fuel efficiency, so complexity becomes a necessity. Americans arenโ€™t weighed down by those burdens.
It's actually a problem with the newer LS derived motors. The (((government))) forces (((fuel efficiency))) standards and companies create VVT/DoD/AFM all variable valvetrains to reduce fuel consumption. And guess what? Those valve trains ALWAYS fail, it's just a question of when not if. I don't see how this saves fuel in the long run when a brand new truck engine blows up within 20k miles and all the fossil fuels it takes to manufacture, install, deliver etc... The older 5.3 and 5.7s without DoD were basically bulletproof.

Europeans don't build their cars for long distance travel like Americans do. They build gay little compact city cars with a trillion stupid things going on to deal with stop and go urban driving, whereas Chevy builds everything to drive 60mph for 16 hours straight because that is the average American commute to work.

I have always had Toyota as my daily driver. Not going to cange that brand either. Never had any problems with them.
A friend of mine had a Tiguan. The one with the fucking TSI engine. He bought it brand new. And I shit you not. Within 100k km, he had TWO engines that went to hell under warranty. When the car reached 120k+ km, the transmission went to hell.
All these jobs would have been over $30k to fix if it wasnt under warranty. And that just show how horrible VAG is.
People can talk as much as they want about "comfort" and "speed" and "driving abilities" etc etc. But I'll rather be that suburbia dad in a Rav4 that gets from A to B than having my car most of the time at a workshop.

And we like to make jokes about american cars and stuff all the time over here, but I can assure you with 110% certainty, that if you want something reliable, and you either have to chose from a european car brand and a US car brand, chose an american car brand any day. Some US models are probably bad also, but in average US cars are way better than European ones. Thats a fact.

What models do toyota have with engines that are failing? They had some issues with Thundra and Lexus LX.
But thinking that ANY car brand make more reliable cars than Toyota is delusional. Lexus and Toyota end up on first place of reliability every single year. And european cars and especially germans are far down the list. German cars are not even quality anymore. If you go for a Mercedes today, most of the entry level ones is not even Mercedes but Renault engines.

>Lexus and Toyota โ€“ over 100,000 cars recalled for engine failure

>Toyota is facing one of its most expensive and complex recalls after discovering a defect in the V-6 twin-turbocharged engines powering both the Tundra pickup trucks and the luxury Lexus LX SUVs. This issue affects vehicles from the 2022 and 2023 model years, specifically those produced between November 2021 and February 2023, and for the Lexus LX, from July 2021 to November 2022.

>Whatโ€™s wrong with these engines?

>The defect that triggered this large-scale recall can cause the engine to stall suddenly while driving, significantly increasing the risk of a crash. The root of the problem stems from machining debris left inside the engine during production, which can lead to engine knocking, rough operation, difficulty starting, and, in the worst cases, total loss of power.

>In May 2024, Toyota notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of this issue. At the time, the company estimated that only 1% of the 102,092 potentially affected vehicles might exhibit the defect. However, this figure was largely due to limitations in NHTSAโ€™s reporting system, where Toyota explained that it was unable to provide an accurate estimate of the number of vehicles affected.

>Drastic solution: complete engine replacement

>Two months after the initial filing, Toyota still had not determined exactly how many vehicles were affected, leading to a radical decision: replace the engines in every potentially impacted vehicle. This means swapping out the engines in over 100,000 vehicles, including approximately 98,600 Tundras and 3,500 Lexus LX SUVs.

>So far, this solution only applies to non-hybrid versions of the 3.4-liter V-6 twin-turbocharged engines (designated V35A). The hybrid Tundra models are not included in this recall because, in the event of an engine failure, their electric motors can still provide power to the vehicle.

Their Tundra pickup trucks can have bad motors brand new. The guy we rent boats and jetskis has one and he had to take it in for warranty work immediately after buying because there was something wrong with the motor. The dealer gave him a loaner but still, they do have issues. I'd bet money it was related to some type of active fuel management problem but can't remember exactly what the issue was.

He even said "I can't believe that Toyota is even having these issues now"

LS are fantastic motors as a whole.

Everything on the SBC derived families are good motors when you have actually worked on them. 400 sbc is probably one of my favorite I have ever dealt with. The ease and robustness of it. Vortec, despite its shortcomings, was a good solid repairable and reliable motor to work on all things considered. LS1 and LS2 and LS3 and LQ4 were all fantastic motors imho. In fact I'd say the best family of motors ever made is the sbc family.

Of course I did. And its an irrelevant number considering how many models Toyota and Lexus have had over the years in the time Toyota has existed as a brand.
That toyota might have an issue with a few models over some years, sure. But try to see all the recalls and issues and piss and shit european cars have. Cant even compare. Im not even going to start talking about british brands like Land Rover, Jaguar, Bentley etc. Land Rover has to be the worst brand ever made, and still, people buy them.

>>511267404
Yeah Toyota had a massive recall on the Thundra ones some years back. Biggest problem in Toyotas history.
But still, they make extremely reliable cars. That toyota in all of its existence have a certain amount of models that fails is microscopic considering how big issues european car brands have. Some of the worst car brands in history with most failures are european. And hell, even today they make cars that are so damn bad they have engine failures and shit befor they even reach 50k miles.

You can go to autotrader.com and look on american car brands and see how many that actually pass 400-500k miles that are for sale. Now try and find a german car who has the same milage where the engine has not been replaced numerous times. American cars are so much better than the average european car its not even funny.

and the gas price varies so much in Norway and other petro rich countries the "gallon" which is a measurement for retards is pennies

also you should check the euro V8 is very different from the burger V8 they have at least different firing order. at least

They do it's just probably run by Shaniqua and Tyrone so that Toyota USA gets tax credits from the kike government. Those motors probably failed from too much chicken grease in the air causing material to get stuck in the motor after machining.

Toyota ceased to be in the discussion as reliable the moment they went full EGR, DOHC, VVT, turbo'd small displacement.

Anyways, none of this changes the fact that the LS family of motors and sbc in geberal were arguably the best motors ever made. Simple, robust, repairable.

The irony is that all of GMs most infamously unreliable engines from the 2010s and onward were basically made in collaboration with Opel and had similarly retarded timing chains that caused all the problems. Germans killed GM with their shit engineering.

Pushrod is objectively superior to dohc. Not in performance but because of the performace/repairability/reliability calculus.

The gains in performance are not remotely worth introducing 50 new major points of failure. This is made all the more apparent by adding vvt onto a dohc motor.
