1) The property could be generating revenue. It could be a store, a warehouse to store goods in transit, an office, etc. You are using a property or space which could otherwise be used to generate another form of revenue.

2) Renting requires less risk. You do not have to maintain the property. You do not have to buy the property. You are mobile and free to move around and leave.

3) No one is forcing most people to rent. Society could have a culture where children stay at home from 18-25, save money, and put a down payment on a cheap house. Society encourages teenagers to move out, not landlords.

If you are a renter, you probably don't realize that property taxes went up in many cities, regulations/codes became more expensive and maintenance wages went up, other fees went up. If you are a renter, you probably voted for these policies to "stop racism" or "abortions in the 9th month" or some other Democrat meme issue.
