Civil trials are balance of probabilities, meaning both sides present as much evidence as humanely possible. Both sides call witnesses. WSJ will call Trump as a witness. If someone refuses usually they would be arrested for ignoring the subpoena. Because he is president he can't be since it would interfere with his duties. Once he is on the stand any question he refuses to answer will be presumed to be the worst case scenario for him.

I would assume that if he refuses to take the stand at all the judge will presume any questions WSJ have of him are worst case scenario. It's a unique situation that hasn't happened before.
