Even if you’re not in my situation, you can find a plan online. Who are these people without insurance, or paying $1,500 a month? I have to suspect they almost don’t exist.

Poor people get Medicaid. Poor children get CHIP. Old people get Medicare. So right off the bat, 55 percent of the country has free healthcare. Otherwise, you have a job that gives you coverage or you can buy it.

Last time I had something bad happen, they changed me 8k for an ambulance ride, plus another 20k for the hospital stay, after insurance covered what it could. Elsewhere on the planet the same issue would cost me a couple hundred.

The rest of the planet does it because it's cheaper, we do it this way because it's the most profitable way for insurance companies to exist.

I stay because I can afford it, but I still think it's dumb, and it's more profitable for every single business that's not a health care company to distribute those costs instead of having it part of employment.
