So many good ones out there.
I like Casino, Godfellas, Once upon a time in America.

I can tell you a movie I did not like, and its probably one of the worst, if not the worst movie I have ever seen. I didnt even finish it. And that is War of the Worlds from this year with Eva Longoria.
It is such a bad movie that I do respect everyone who actually can sit for 1h 30m and finish that movie. You might think you have seen a lot of bad movies, but you have not seen a bad movie until you have seen this one. Its actually so bad it just shows that no matter how insanely bad something can be and beyond, there will be someone out there that actually is willing to fund such a project.

Its so bad, I am actually going to post the trailer here. You cant enjoy this.

when i used to watch war movies i always assumed i would be a minor hero of sorts.. that i'd do something dope. now in my 30s when i watch them i pretty confident i would be one of the examples they use to demonstrate just how quickly and pointless war is as some guy smoking a cigarette when the fighting dies down a bit and then get domed from a sniper.

anyways.. Network is incredible and insightful and im surprised its not considered a /pol/ classic

That was funny. I was fetching the lobby card from image search (yet again) to add to my post when yours showed up.

I still have the videotape I had originally recorded it onto. The VHS format had that sweet LP mode that perfectly accommodated two full length movies with decent quality, and pic rel is the other one on that tape. Another good movie in its own right, made a couple years later.

i never shut my computer off so i have a whole page for upcoming diversions to stream to my tv.
i just got done with a James Stewart kick having watched rear window, vertigo and anatomy of a murder.. i used to think only Kurosawa made anything decent in the 50s.. but as i get older i can appreciate more and more.. i spent like 15 years of my life barely dipping into anything past the 80s. tbf i wouldn't have been able to enjoy most of these movies in my 20s anyways. crazy that Stewart is basically completely forgotten now despite his impact and level of fame

My history professor in college (I took I think five of his classes) told me about his brother watching a movie every night and refusing to watch anything made after 1945. It must have taken some effort to keep the movies coming in. This was long before streaming and even before torrents, files hares and Usenet.

Pic related. He showed this one to us for his course on Europe in the interwar years.

Three from Argentina (one is a TV show)

Nine Queens
The Secret in Their Eyes
The Eternaut

All star Ricardo Darin, who is an incredibly watchable actor.
Nine Queens I remember the film critic of the Times saying it's the only film he's ever come out of, gone to the ticket seller and bought a ticket for the next showing.
Secret in Their Eyes got Oscar for Best Foreign Film in 2009 and should have just have been given Best Film for that year, period.
Eternaut is a recent Netflix series based on a comic book serial. It features a strange snowstorm across Buenos Aires (and the world) which kills anyone touched by the snow. The survivors have to survive and figure out what the hell is going on.

do Sum of All Fears next. or Threads. that movie fucked me up man. Dr Strangelove. On the Beach is a very underrated one that doesn't show any war but focuses on the psychological effects of the aftermath in an area far from the conflict. great acting by the actors.

but Threads, man. sheesh. that one will ruin your fucking night.

Barefoot Gen.
Nausica and the valley of the wind.

a few years back i went on a kurosawa binge and expanded it to all samurai classics. i found some top 25 list or something and just went through all of them. old japanese movies are 100% kino. anything with toshiro mufone in it basically. love the samurai trilogy, yojimbo, throne of blood, drunken angel, ran and seven samurai obviously. ghost dog is my favorite modern one, though they did a great modern update of thirteen ninjas and zatoichi.

there are like a dozen great zatoichi movies, and literally dozens of great lone wolf and cub movies, they are all 100% kino even if some are stronger than others.

oh japanese yakuza/gangster movies are fucking kino too, my favorite are "Battles Without Honor or Humanity" series. there are like 7 or 8 iirc but at least 3 of them are fucking great, based on true stories of early yakuza gang battles in the era right after ww2 (and the yakuza gangs ended up becoming the zaibatsu that run japanese society btw)

"Joker Rising" low budget fan fic.

Seriously, The Jews should have this director do this for entire Cap Shit universe.

If done as maybe a year long super-series, maybe one every two weeks, it would dominate.

Make it a surprise WTF is going to be next, and make it take 30 min into a 2 hour (with comms) show to even let on what this week's subject would be. Eyeballs would be glued to screens, world wide.

fwiw, there are two versions of dark city.
>A director's cut of Dark City was officially released on DVD and Blu-ray disc on 29 July 2008. The director's cut removes the opening narration, which Proyas felt explained too much of the plot, and includes approximately eleven minutes of additional footage, most of which extend scenes already present in the theatrical release with additional establishing shots and dialogue.[34] The DVD and Blu-ray feature expanded audio commentaries by Ebert, Proyas, and Dobbs and Goyer, along with several new documentaries. The Blu-ray also includes the original theatrical cut of the film and the special features from the 1998 DVD release.

You need only watch it twice, and need no flow chart unless you are clinically retarded or brown-skinned. There is a lot you miss the first time through simply because you had no way of seeing the part until you understand the whole. The second time though is not even required, it is just to see how intricate the story really was and how much thought went into it.

heh, if it's anything like Blood Meridian in tone, it goes dark to bleak to numbing levels of horror and then fades to black. ...and then the tiniest glint of light at the end of the tunnel.

The cannibal gangs kept all captured women and kids as rape slaves and made them carry their rape babies to term.
After the babies were born, they would spit roast and cook the babies.

I know it did not get great reviews, but I liked it. Had a good extraterrestrial arch-villain & earth meta-history story line. Then again unless its obviously pozzed, I am not overly nitpicky or discerning about sci-fi and tend to enjoy it for its imaginative takes.
Moon (2009) is another good one that got very little mainstream attention.

Also, the videogames always get good ratings. I can vouch for
>Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (2004)
and now I'm about to play the sequel to that released in 2009: Dark Athena. Those games always get good ratings. Vin Diesel makes good video games.

i just didnt understand the hate. like, what more could people want out of such a genre film? care was absolutely taken in the making of film. it displayed some wonderful flourishes and the scene of the human homeworld, orus, as a post-singularity conception was really unparalleled.
