Stevia vs refined sugar; a political discussion.
Saars what are your thoughts on stevia and it's rampant destruction of refined sugar? It's saving me from the diabetes (or at least helping) but how is no sugar soda and snacks helping big pharma reach their goals?

sugar isn't a big deal.

I think it's a big deal for people that can't control themselves though. Coming from a fatty who has indulged too much and have had to take a look at themselves. I guess I am asking if stevia is really that simple a solution to replacing sugar in your diet and enjoying the things you'd normally enjoy without the increased risk of diabetes. Ie what's the catch..

have you tried monk fruit sugar?
is rates zero on the glycemic index

Funny you should mention that but I think there's a new zero sugar red bull that's sweetened with monk fruit. Long story short I just like 'healthy mixers' to go with my vodka. Monk fruit probably too niche and expensive for the time being

They have a different set of side effects that can cause health issues. They just convinced everyone it's less with anything non-sugar (real killer is corn syrup and other heavily processed sweeteners)

There is no replacement for sugar tho. All the "healthier" alternatives taste like ass. They are sweet yes, but the flavor is off compared to real sugar. Sugar is also no issue for people who can control themselves. The weak minded fatties succumb to their addition. Nothing of value is lost. /threat

I haven't really looked into the side effects of stevia aside from the usual cancer hysteria. I just worry there must be something sinister beneath the acceptance of stevia as an alternate sweetener

You're not wrong and I'm used to the new flavour now that I can't really stand refined sugar

There was a 14-year study that was just published showing that sugar substitutes are actually more unhealthy than regular sugar; they lead to ~34% higher incidence of diabetes if I'm not mistaken

that study is probably garbage. people who use sugar substitutes are almost always carrying co-factors like being fat af.

Even a retarded high school student taking 9th grade biology knows how to control for things like that... come on now

Took the PURE stevia pill years ago to prevent the beetus. My blood sugar rides close to the danger zone even on low carb diet. My kidney function has improved, something that is supposedly impossible and I haven't gotten the beetus. I make amazing drinks including sugar free sodas. By not drinking my calories I can have an occasional dessert and burn it off with exercise. Down from 250# to 195. 6'.

Type 2 diabetes is caused by too much glucose which makes you pancreas create more and more insulin until your cells are overwhelmed and develop an insulin resistance. Sugar substitutes don't cause a spike in glucose therefore the claim that they increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes is bullshit.

Craving sweet foods is a sign of malnutrition. You are lacking the vitamins found in sweet foods which is exacerbated by eating empty refined sugar. This death spiral causes your diabetes.
While sugar replacements have less impact on your body, ultimately they only treat your symptoms and not your problem. Arguably they make things worse because it helps you avoid the problem longer.

We don't need sugar. Just eat your proteins and fats and you won't ever have diabetes.

Stevia tastes like shit. And its not healthier than aspartame or any other sweetener, its a potential mutagen too. Just because it comes from a plant, doesnt mean its good. Look at liquorice root, too much of that can kill you dead.

Wow you sound like fun. Jesus christ. Instead of going full retard in one direction, go full retard into the other. This is like a real disease in today's society. These topics were non existent until everyone and their grandma fell for nutritional grifters. It's the same thing with alcohol, in moderation it's no problem, so is sugar, carbs, meat, eggs, fats and oils. In my generation we were taught common sense. Zoomers think they outsmart everyone because they'd rather rape than smoke, drink red bull instead of a beer after school, and eat refined foods that mimic meat instead of just having a steak. Then they wonder when they get ass cancer at 25.

I drink close 2 litres aspartame diet-coke every day alongside 4 cups of coffee with 2 aspartame tabs per coffee instead of sugar.

I get a check up with my doctor every 6 months (blood work and other stuff) and I'm fine.
