There's no material return from going to space.

Once you've established a satellite network there's no longer a point to go further. The millions of tonnes of fuel that you spend on space exploration could instead be spent on drilling the earth for resources.

You get science for science's sake, and you accidentally discover a bunch of new composites and technologies while researching space travel. But you might as well research composites directly if that's what you're after.

Space exploration will make sense once we have autonomous/self-replicating robots. So... not in our lifetimes.

Money, resources, plus theres no point. Theres nothing out there worth exploring and even if we found something our tech is so rudimentary that we wouldnt be able to even get a robotic probe to anything in like 100 years.
