The point is that people prefer Japanese things over Chinese because the latter has a reputation for being of lower quality due to historical practices. There is a lot of effort to move past those mentalities as Chinese society progresses but it's still there.
But a big part of why they do it that way is, as you said, it gets grand scale results in a short amount of time.
