Christ did preach a sort of asceticism, and while I agree with you that letting greed, lust or pride consume you is a bad idea, hell, holding god as the highest good, and loving him above all else, creates a sort of invincibility, I think that hell is a place on earth. However, there will be all the time in the universe to not care when I return to the great mother.
Strength is the only way we find any peace in this world; you are in and of this world, no matter what. And even if you truly are not of this world as Christ commands, to continue life, you must drop down to the level of women, who are very much tied to the world.
As for me, I want the most of this life, I have tasted pain and sickness and want nothing more than the full palette of life. I believe in the Western mission of ordering the world; I myself would have died extreemly painfully if not for the course of Western civilisation. Decadence is not an option for me
