It really depends what they want from us. The truth is that a really advanced alien race is going to care as much about us as we care about something like a termite mound or ant hill in the middle of nowhere.

If there is any interaction, it would be rate and it may just be scientists collecting data or samples. We also need to accept that we may not even understand their reasons for interacting with us. The biggest thing to consider is why aliens would visit us at all.

Unless they are desperate, they won't risk coming to Earth unless they are certain they could destroy us to protect themselves. In that case, then whatever it is they want, they WILL be getting, whether we like it or not. If they were below our level of military might, they'd be risking annihilation making contact with us, so they would have to be desperate. In that case, they clearly will do whatever they have to for their survival.

Another thing to consider is the societal chaos an alien presence would bring. Look at how bad it is with human migrants today or human settlers historically. I don't think aliens would be hostile. First, any space-faring alien race would have passed the great filter of using advanced technology for exploitation and tyranny. The logic is that any race using technology in this way would destroy itself before having any chance of exploring space. Second, given the abundance of raw resources in space and lifeless-planets, etc., the motive for exploration is not likely to be the seeking out of "rare" resources to exploit. Even if an alien race enters a far-away solar system for some strategic positioning in a conflict with others, there is no need to place the outpost on the home-planet of a non-space-faring race. Potentially, the only interest would be in biological diversity of a world; and in that case invasion and domination is not necessary; trade and exchange is sufficient (or discreet poaching perhaps). If, like earth, the planet is populated with an intelligent species, contact may be warranted at some point, but only in a way that does not upset the society on that planet. In short, I think (please don't laugh) that any contact is more likely to be something like in Star Trek where the Vulcans sort of take humans under their wing and slowly bring them up-to-speed. So much to say on all you other points, but I think the likelihood is that aliens would resemble us. Form and function....Rupert Sheldrakess morpho-genetic fields, etc....I think would dictate convergent evolution.
