It really depends what they want from us. The truth is that a really advanced alien race is going to care as much about us as we care about something like a termite mound or ant hill in the middle of nowhere.

If there is any interaction, it would be rate and it may just be scientists collecting data or samples. We also need to accept that we may not even understand their reasons for interacting with us. If life of our kind at our stage of development is super common someone may just fuck with us just for the sake of it, just like kid might kick over the termite mound. There may be absolutely no reason whatsoever for them to just decide to kill us other than they see us as an annoyance and find us disgusting to look at.

Such an event may change the course of humanity forever, where whatever is left will likely seethe about it and tell their descendants to seek revenge. But I don't think that it will make a difference.

The biggest thing to consider is why aliens would visit us at all.

Unless they are desperate, they won't risk coming to Earth unless they are certain they could destroy us to protect themselves. In that case, then whatever it is they want, they WILL be getting, whether we like it or not. If they were below our level of military might, they'd be risking annihilation making contact with us, so they would have to be desperate. In that case, they clearly will do whatever they have to for their survival.

Another thing to consider is the societal chaos an alien presence would bring. Look at how bad it is with human migrants today or human settlers historically. Now imagine the alien versions of all that. And I don't even mean the culture clash. It's our own political conflict, religious upheaval and ethics questions that come about from this. If you thought the free palestine protestors were insufferable, just wait for the leftards to start advocating for alien's rights. The muslims may try to plant pipe bombs on their spaceships. There will be troons claiming they are an alien gender, and some old dudes will be fucking alien women. Someone will try to eat one. They will be involved as perpetrators and victims of crime. Even if the aliens are totally peaceful and benevolent, their presence will still be devastating for us societally. That will lead to humans being the hostile ones, and in the inevitable clash vs the aliens, we're gonna get wiped out, or at least enslaved.

I don't think aliens would be hostile. First, any space-faring alien race would have passed the great filter of using advanced technology for exploitation and tyranny. The logic is that any race using technology in this way would destroy itself before having any chance of exploring space. Second, given the abundance of raw resources in space and lifeless-planets, etc., the motive for exploration is not likely to be the seeking out of "rare" resources to exploit. Even if an alien race enters a far-away solar system for some strategic positioning in a conflict with others, there is no need to place the outpost on the home-planet of a non-space-faring race. Potentially, the only interest would be in biological diversity of a world; and in that case invasion and domination is not necessary; trade and exchange is sufficient (or discreet poaching perhaps). If, like earth, the planet is populated with an intelligent species, contact may be warranted at some point, but only in a way that does not upset the society on that planet. In short, I think (please don't laugh) that any contact is more likely to be something like in Star Trek where the Vulcans sort of take humans under their wing and slowly bring them up-to-speed. Slowly and carefully, because earth experience that shown that contact between a primitive race and a highly-advanced race tend to demoralize and destabilize the natural development and social structure of the more primitive race. The only dangerous situation would be if we are facing a desperate, technologically advanced, alien species seeking a new home of refuge. That situation will tend to make the aliens competitors for our planetary ecological niche (i.e., earth), and that poses many problems. So much to say on all you other points, but I think the likelihood is that aliens would resemble us. Form and function....Rupert Sheldrakess morpho-genetic fields, etc....I think would dictate convergent evolution.
