Seriously, how do americans actually think war with China is going to go down? USA hasn't fought a real war since 1953 - with none other than China. And the USA didn't win that. Arguably China did, or at least held their ground against US expansion. USA has only had mixed success with significantly smaller enemies (Vietnam, Panama, Iraq) since.

Well basically, John , the two countries do not share a land border so the conflict would be fought entirely within the air and seas surrounding China, which the US has effectively encircled with a ring of allies from which it can base planes, missiles, infrastructure and long range defenses. It has vastly more experience in all forms of warfare involved and a colossal advantage in both quantity and quality of relevant platforms available.

It probably can't be said often enough that definitive antisurface platform of modern naval warfare is the nuclear submarine. China has 0. It has never engaged in submarine or anti submarine warfare and has essentially no platforms capable of it. It has never engaged in a serious air battle or fought for control of a contested air space. It has not fought a naval battle since the 1930s (its first and only battle with modern ships)

China doesn't even know what it's doing in these domains and it's painfully obvious. There isn't going to be a war with China because simply put it would be a really fucking terrible idea for them to pick that fight, and they probably know better.

If China's military is worse equipped than Russia's (a country losing a war to literal cab drivers in oinkraine right now) it stands to reason that the USA is still head and shoulders the greatest military still by a margin that isn't even close.

I would argue the PLA is about as powerful as the USA was in the 70's, formidable enough to threaten their neighbors but not enough to project power in a meaningful way.

Chinese successfully expelled UN forces from northern Korea in the winter of 1950-1951.
However their subsequent attempt to liberate the south was a failure and was abandoned.
The war then stalemated with the border roughly where it still is today.

Unfortunately the US now controls huge parts of the global system, precisely because they prefer to win by subduing their enemies, and caging them into a favorable system, rather than outright colonizing them. And if it's an all out war, with clearly defined boundaries, goals, and political actors, they will curbstomp. So America is technically "ready" in the sense we have all sorts of advantages in the tech side, the food side, and of course Navy/AF side. The United States doesn't have the capacity to conquer and occupy China in a land war and China doesn't have the capacity to conquer and occupy the United States in a land war. So forget that scenario.

Any conflict between the US and China is going to be either cold war style proxy wars or a naval and air war which the United States would have the advantage in.

Now lets consider the particular case of Taiwan.
If China declared war on Taiwan one of two scenarios would play out, 1: China would rapidly conquer Taiwan before anyone could react and the United States and its allies would react by cutting off al trade with China which would be devastating for the world economy all around or the more likely scenario of 2: China would attempt to invade Taiwan and the United States and western powers would use naval and air power to stop them. Most likely this would simply entail western Navies and troops getting in the way and China backing down instead of starting WWIII; but if China did decide they wanted to start WWIII you'd probably see a major naval and air war that China would probably lose (unless they've got something up their sleeve I don't know about). This would probably last a few months until one side or the other's navy was depleted at which point there would be a peace treaty favorable to the winning side and then a breakdown of trade relations between China and the west.

Alternatively things go nuclear and China matches its 300 nukes against the United States 8,000 nukes. Both sides get fucked; but China likely gets fucked a lot harder.

Honestly at present a war between the US and China would be disastrous for both sides and for the world economy and would only happen if someone in charge was retarded.

When was the last time China faced real combat? 1950's? North Koreans have more combat experience now that some have been sent to Russia to die.
