I’m 27, and while I’m not old, I’m in my third year at university (which makes me a mature age student). I have been aware of the rise of AI and how it will absolutely destroy the minds of the younger generation, but I wasn’t aware until now that even 20-22 year olds are suffering from the rise of this technology.

When I say that these kids are not able to think for themselves, it’s not a joke. My group projects are basically me having a discussion with ChatGPT (or Chat, as they call it) “Lemme ask Chat”, “I’m gonna check with Chat”

They can’t grasp simple concepts. I feel like I’m leading a gang of toddlers through their first year at school. “We want to make a hologram like in Marvel” (proceeds to show me a picture of an iguana in Iron Man).

I'm generally opposed to banning things, and I realize that it's impossible to do it at this point, but for the sake of argument I can understand the case for banning LLMs for basically 99% of the population. The window where LLMs can be used to enhance the capability of an individual in a genuinely positive way is small. For most people they completely abuse their use of LLMs to the point where we are walking straight into creating a society of unprecedented retards. People have always been retarded, but I don't think we're prepared for just how bad it's going to get. Anecdotally we're all noticing things that just seem a bit off in a post-LLM world, and over time it's going to accumulate into a complete disaster. There are some genuinely amazing things about what you can do with LLMs, but sadly I think there are just way too many risks than there are measurable benefits at this point. Not to mention the perverse incentives around LLMs being anointed as "the truth" and the people who get to control what LLMs will shit out.

On a more serious level, I have been saying something very similar to this for many years now.
I work in cyber security, and I have attempted to onboard a variety of people at a variety of skill levels.
Our entry level positions basically have a playbook that a child could follow, however much like what OP is saying, the problem is interpreting the "results" of this playbook, and on that front there is clearly a massive divide between those who are capable of critical thinking and those who are not.
As time goes on I have definitely noticed this trend further skews toward the incompetency of youth and until we start calling people out on it I'm not sure it will ever change.

I'm using generative AI a lot for the past 2-3 years, am in several communities around it and people have loved my bots and gens. It's all porn related however.

A few weeks ago I witessed a young couple actually using chatgpt in real life. It was insane to see. They asked it all kinds of questions and just believed everything it said. They asked it how to repair something in their home, how to do a diy project, how to take their meds etc. It was just casually integrated into their lives.
