Most mining is done with asics which are designed just to mine btc.
When eth changed to proof of stake killed mining with gpus.
Monero mining is not profitable least someone hijacks thousands of normal of cpus with malware... Honestly greed has been the real killer.

Monero mining is profitable through late 32-64 core Xeon/Epyc rigs, the problem is these rigs are too expensive and not made for mining at all (they're servers/workstations that have shitty fan refrigeration)

and in my opinion ai feels more useful than asics that get disposed when the new thing arrives.

This part doesn't even make sense. Crypto, for a long time now, has been at a level where you can only make money off of it if you buy into it with a ludicrously high amount. Remember that most people on the planet can't even afford a sudden $100 bill. You think your average person has the amount of spare cash it takes to invest into crypto with the numbers needed to actually gain a meaningful return? We're long past the point of "bruh, just put $100 into it, wait ten years, and you'll be a millionaire". If you can't put tens of thousands of dollars into it immediately you won't be making money off of it anymore.
