systemd is good. You could spend 5 minutes learning how to use it instead of bitching about your old shitty init scripts that only work half the time.

don't bother with a traditional distro initially

Do this
www.linuxfromscratch.org

Its the most worthwhile thing a person who is new to linux can do. And the resulting system is better than any distro including gentoo.

I switched to Linux this year. It's not difficult. They have great documentation. But you need to be willing to learn and spend some time doing it initially. I'm not an IT guy, but I had some basic understanding how computers work and it took me about a month. The distro choice depends on what you're looking for. I went with Arch because it's minimalistic and allowed me to build and configure the system exactly how I wanted it. Very happy I've done it. Didn't boot into Windows in months.

its one thing to be able to install linux from some bootable distro, and quite another to be able to actually use it. I think thats where most people fail with linux there is so much to learn to be able to use it. lfs is almost necessary imho...

The most hilarious thing, is that any Linux core builds right after 6.11 (which was the last core that was directly worked on and maintained by Russians), started nearly immediately having issues and overall quality of the core dropped massively almost instantly.

Otherwise it's catching up to xorg. Systemd is actually better if you are system or server manager. It saves a lot of time and manual labor.
