Strauss-howe generational archetype theory is pretty interesting. all of American history can be described as a cyclical "hard times create strong men" battle between boomer and millennial.

The boomer is a "prophet" generation that grows up in a secure environment with strong institutions. They invariably find it stifling and tear everything down in the name of spirituality and personal freedom. The prophet generation before them was the "missionary" generation, they gave women the right to vote.

The millennial generation is supposed to be a "hero" generation. Their development takes place in the mess prophets have created, a nation of economic insecurity with weak institutions and perceived national weakness.

Not sure how millennials were ever supposed to change anything of course. We're in our forties and boomers still have their dessicated claws on all the levers of power. We'll get it eventually but Gen Z is similar to the generation that was sent to ww1 and Gen X. The lost generation
