Greece is a ruined country, it's essentially a ponzi scheme. The young generations are overworked and underpaid and are currently staging a mass exodus towards other European countries. In the end the only people who will remain in Greece will be old people and immigrants who work in the despicable tourism industry that hollows out the country. Perhaps the immigrants will become the new Greeks even though Greece is currently such a shithole that even they abandon ship after working a few years there.

I have four cousins in Nafpaktos I stay relatively in touch with, get to stay at their places when I visit, but all their parents at least have some pensions, and the one's parents are rich.

They say how a lot of people have to leave. But they all live in the same town and all hang out with each other, including their kids.

They do admit they all hate how much they have to work.

I want to be able to hang out with them regularly like I used to as a kid. And if I don't do it before my kids get too old, the connection I have to them will fade a lot.

Even though they don't have much money, their houses are small, and they work a ton, at least the climate is dope, the food is the best, they all have each other, and in their part of Greece it's at least ethnically homogeneous.

Thanks man. Nafpaktos really is the best. I know a few families that built a home there to go back to retire. After spending all their earning years in America. I feel like I'm about to do the same thing. It's just too attractive of a place and people to not want to go back to. Just wish I could hit the lottery and go there now, not when I'm 60.

Athens would be the smoothest transition from America to Greece, that is not a bad idea, especially if they have a summer home on an island or something like that. Now that you say that, I could see my family maining in Athens for the school year, and spending the rest in Nafpaktos.

But at that point, it's probably just better to work and school in America during the kid's school year, then spend the summer in Greece...

Only reason my family and the ones I know left was to plan on making a ton of money and using it to get ahead in Greece. But a lot of people end up getting assimilated. Like, I know 7 Greek-American doctors, and not one of them married Greek. Some have a house in Greece, but like, after a while, and now with the Eurozone, there's no new Greek people coming to America..
