That is not the reason it is over.

Ion engines were installed onto a near-Earth asteroid and have gently pushed it into Earth's path over the last several years. The only drawback is that it was not feasible to select the impact location. This was only calculated after the asteroid was moved into position. It is now near certain that it will be an ocean strike, which sounds better than if it were to strike land, but it isn't. Tsunamis will inundate most continents for hundreds of miles inshore, and the amount of water vapor ejected into the atmosphere will blot out the sun for centuries, ensuring the complete annihilation of life on this planet.
