Buildings are an achievement but they are far from defining a society. In fact, if you were to say they define a society in this case it defines the society in negative ways. The architectural achievement is amazing in and of itself, but it’s the idea that this somehow transforms the surrounding sand donkey culture into something transcendental that is nonsense.
