I don't know what you have to choose from in Mexico but I'll list off some bigger brands for you to look out for:
Four Roses
Maker's Mark
Wild Turkey, specially the Rare Breed.
Knob Creek.
Woodford Reserve.
Angel's Envy.
Benchmark is a good inexpensive brand, Buffalo Trace makes that and most of what they make is good stuff.
Consequently, Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, Blanton's, Stagg, Van Winkle, E.H. Taylor, basically anything they make is good just don't get ripped off. E.H. Taylor Rye is my personal favorite.

If you can't tell, I actually work in a liquor store. As far as cheap whiskey I like Evan Williams Bottled-in-Bond the most. It's four years old, 100 proof, and only 20 bucks. Jim beam is only 3 year old whiskey, same with Jack Daniels. If you want a consistent mark of quality look for stuff called bottled in bond, it means it has to be four years old at a minimum, and 100 proof, and made with a fresh oak cask. Guaranteed quality when it says that, basically.
