The KMT, composed of a collection of corrupt warlords, failed to understand such a crucial Chinese matter, and as a result, the farmers united behind Mao's agrarian-based approach. Combined with the damage from the Sino-Japanese War, this led to the KMT's decisive defeat in the Chinese Civil War. Incidentally, the Cultural Revolution began with Mao's Yangtze River swim.
The CCP will continue to maintain the Three Gorges Dam by any means necessary and reinforce it if required.
And in the West, there are also fools who believe that blowing up the dam voluntarily will solve some problem. Doing so would guarantee the CCP another 100 years in power.

They had already done various sediment flow simulations and the way they design it is the structure will actually get stronger overtime. The CIA/MI6 dummies have no idea how much they love that dam nor the care they put into it. Yes, the Chinese don't give a crap quality in export products or even regular building (they have a phase for this: 差不多chabuduo ). But Three Gorges is different for them and they really did put in the work to do it right. It was 超出预期 for them. I can only laugh at these thread which happen every two weeks.
I frankly don't understand why you people hate the Chinese so much especially considering the shared history with the the USA with the founder of the Chinese Republic being Dr. Sun Yat Sen (he was born in Hawaii).
If the USA were a serious country we would building the North American Water and Power Alliance (NAWAPA) and taking the best engineers from the 3 Georges project because it's the only project on the scale that NAWAPA would be and if we don't build NAWAPA then most of the cities of the Southwest are dead once the Ogallala Aquifer is depleted sometime around 2050. The only way for the USA to survive is realize that's it's big country like China and it needs big national projects as point of cultural commonality otherwise we'll just fragment as multiculturalism becomes balkanization.
