Biggest issue is the sheer nanny-state attitude, tall poppy syndrome and dogshit car based city design basically killed culture and nightlife.
As much as people shit on Melbourne, it's the only decent city in Australia in terms of actually having something resembling a slightly more European life.
Australia is sad for me, grew up there, but had to leave because there was no career pathway there due to the country being run functionally by a real estate, murdoch and mining oligarchy and the Government being pathologically paternalistic. Lost so much money in the 2010s during the Glady's era running my live events business. Eventually (like much of the Aus music, talent, creative media types) had to move to Europe.
Still miss the Australian doof scene though, absolutely SHITS all over the free party and festival scene of Europe.
