Are you sure I'm the one with the Hollywood science fiction? Looking at steel production alone, the USA produced 100 million metric tons per year whereas Germany produced 20, a 5x difference. It is also a known fact that the USSR had substantially more manpower than Germany, but even if they lost I am not convinced Germany could've won against the USA alone.
You are severely underestimating the degree to which American industry won the war for the USSR and lost the war for the Germans, we were practically the sole source of munitions to the Russians.
It was a suicidal war, in that the Germans could never win a long, drawn out war against the United States. The only reason it happened was because Hitler was a fool who couldn't keep the peace and invaded over the Polish Corridor. WW2 was just as much a tragedy as WW1, in that it never should've happened and only gave the worst kinds of people more power over us.
