I don't know if Ukraine OR Russia "is winning" right now. It's likely only something that will be determinable through the lens of history.

A Pentagon spokesman confirmed to the authors that the military gave 500,000 gallons of fuel to Bout's pilots.

They fought to the last man at Stalingrad before they were a regular army unit. Then they fought to the last man in Kursk (ww2) as the 76th guards, then they fought to the last man on hill 776 in the chechen war and called artillery on themselves intentionally. A very different strategy was used. I would advise that you not interpret Russia’s slow and methodical grind as a lack of ability; it’s just how they are. I was present during the U.S. invasion of Iraq (3/3 ID) and again in ‘05-06. The combat was easy, the rebuilding was a mother fucker. The Russians will not have the same problem. Kiev will be bled-dry of anyone capable of leading or forming a resistance by the time that Russian ground forces arrive. Their victory will be complete where mine was only for the news/ election cycle.
