Letting the USSR collapse was the greatest mistake, the entire world had to foot the responsibility for their failed gosplan. That's why neoliberalism emerged in the 90s in force, around 90% of Japan's high rise skyline was built after the 90s and most cities weren't hooked up to sewers until the 2000s. Neoliberalism basically recreated Japan in the 90s and turned the whole country into a marketing campaign for private development. Don't believe me? The most common job in Japan is sales, yet their economy is deflating. That's the precise opposite of what sales is supposed to do, yet their economy isn't collapsing Great Depression style. Most of these sales to foreign markets, their entire economy is held together by a carry trade. But what do they sell? Most Japanese cars and tools that are in the US are also made here, so the only thing that's being sold is the corporate model. The failure of neoliberalism is that it relies on Potemkin village level development schemes and are not planned to last into the future, but when they try to sell models to people they don't want to return home kind of like how kids don't want to leave EPCOT or Disneyland. Everyone wants a prepackaged product, but no one cares to know where it came from or how it was made. If Japan starts failing then the IMF is fucked, they sold Japan's model to most of SEA, and Japan has a critical skilled labor shortage so they're trying to get engineers into Japan because everyone in Japan seems to work service or sales jobs.
