Zoos everywhere have always done this with rabbits and other non-dog and non-cat pets. Generally you don't feed one predator to another predator, because eating a predator is the fastest way to contract brain parasites.

Why would you give them away for free? Pets are part of the family, they have the right to rest on the family land.
