I live in central Ohio, near the Columbus region. I live in the woods, rural area. For a DECADE the only species of tick I have seen has been the black legged tick, the one that carries lyme (and I got lyme a few years ago too and beat it with antiobiotics).

Out of nowhere, my girlfriend gets two ticks on her one day, both very small, likely still nymphs. I pulled both off of her and used my stereo microscope to inspect them to make sure the head and proboscis were still attached to the tick as I also do with tick bites. I discovered they were a different species. A quick search confirmed they were lone star ticks.

I have only ever seen dog ticks when I was a kid, and in my adult life they have pretty much all been black legged ticks. Right in time with this alpha gal shit suddenly there are lone star ticks?

That's for lyme, lyme is a bacteria and it typically needs about 36 hours to transmit. Alpha gal is a molecule and is immediate as it's carried in the actual saliva as soon as it bites you.

And by the way, it's very easy to have a tick for a couple of days if they're small. They are often the size of a flea or smaller. Most lyme cases came from small ticks, not the adults.

Any budget microscope will suffice if you need it for something like looking at something as large as a tick, just make sure it's not a toy as toy grade microscopes are so shit they will put someone off microscopes for life. If you use a compound you will need to shine a flashlight on the top of the insect or anything that is opaque, where as a stereo is made to look at opaque objects but with less magnification. I have both. The compound is very fun to use to look at microbes, stereo for larger opaque things.
I recommend looking up this asian guy named "microbehunter" if you're wanting to dive into microscopy.

Start by buying a rifle and learning to shoot. Take some shooting classes at your local range and take the mandatory hunter safety course to get your hunting license.

Get to know the people in the shooting community in your area. There will be lots of hunters who will be happy to take you along on hunts. You'll have a chance to clean any deer or other game that's shot.

Usually you just field dress the dear to make it lighter and drop the carcass off at a butcher shop to have them do a pro job of cutting it into steak and sausage, etc.

How much meat you get depends on the species. For deer, usually you can expect about 1/4 to 1/3 of the weight as edible meat. The rest is viscera, bone, and skin.
