>Ukraine provoked Russia into war
What gives Russia the right to dictate the policies of Ukraine? Ukraine is a sovereign country, and if they want to get closer to the EU that is their choice to make. It is not Russia's choice. It's also the choice of Ukraine to not have to bend to Russia's strategic interests. Ukraine following its own interests is not an abandonment of realpolitik. People will cite Russian strategic interests as justification for the war, as if it is a priority to take in account the interests of Russia. For example,
>russia depends on the warm water port in Crimea, you can't just get closer with the west. It hurts the interests of Russia
Since when should a sovereign country have to bend to the will of another country's interest?
