capture small silvery fast things in your house with a slime trap

a silverfish is small insect, not larger than a typical ant, which can make real fast burst of speeds altough it cant maintain it for a long time, when it runs away after being discovered

its entire skin is made from silver scales which will make you think of fish scales, there is no other quality that makes you associate it with fish though

a debate has continued for 20 years if it is an insect at all or if it belongs to other branch of life very closely related to insects but separate for 420 million years

whatever they are, something must be done to get rid of them

there is now slime traps in convenience stores for mere few euros, it has delicious sugar substance which lures silverfish in, but it also has insects slime which traps their little feet

one such 3 euro 30 cents trap was tested and it seems reliable, it was on kitchen floor for 2 weeks and afterwards the tester calculated close to 40 trapped silverfish, some of them already dead from exhaustion or from starvation being trapped in the slime
(traps are not poisonous, it just makes them immobilized)

throw it in a garbage bin outside of your house and be freed from larvae

Growing up I was told they were good luck but that was probably just cope. Anyways, when I do see them I rarely kill them, unless they are massive or they get too close to me.

Checked. I’ve seen a fair amount of silverfish here in New England, though not often. Far more often I’ve come across tiny see-through shrimp looking creatures that seem to survive pretty well on land, but are much more prevalent in the brackish seawater river that flows behind my house. Similar topic, I sure miss the fireflies- I’ve only seen maybe a dozen this year.

We had these under our oil cooker in my childhood. They would come out late at night, but never caused any problems, never spread any further than that. They were just the odd little ‘fish’ that lived under the cooker.

The only bugs I ever see in my house are spiders (lots) and earwigs. Some fungus or drain gnats occasionally.

silverfish, and their firebrat cousins don't eat sugar, they eat cellulose, and they aren't attracted by either, they're attracted by their own feces (literally not even joking) and the sticky traps just traps them when their dumb asses traverse over them
now what makes this work is the fact that these little niggers can live for MONTHS without eating, so while they are stuck on the trap waiting to die, they're also shitting themselves there, which attracts other silverfish/firebrats onto the trap as well
now what's interesting, that i have observed, is that at least for firebrats, they will attempt to free their kin by trying to tug them off of it
sometimes they are successful, but in the process they rip them apart and kill them, pretty fascinating to watch, and seems to suggest a level of intelligence that insects don't have
