It is hard for me to comment on the content of the article, but I wonder how the US, the country that dropped the atomic bombs, could say such a thing so openly. No matter how you put it, air raids and atomic bombings are nothing but massacres of civilians.

However, an invasion of Japan would have killed millions of Americans and millions of Japanese as well. Invasion of Japan was the only other option realistically on the table, the US was winning the war of attrition and the war needed to end. Therefore, on the balance, the bombings were perhaps the less horrific option on the table. They allowed millions of Americans to survive to go home that otherwise would not have.
